Student Success Program Testimonies

The Student Success Program is an awesome first-year program for freshmen!  You have a Success Coach that helps you during your first year, making sure you know what to do and where to go to be successful.   They will check in with you to make sure you are doing okay with all of your classes and transitioning to college. The Student Success Center has lots of resources that you can utilize, as well as the Academic Performance Center and Writing Center…all the tools you need to succeed.  There are activities that Student Success Program does just for you that make you feel at home at Utah Tech. You will have a blast and make friends!

When I first found out that I would be place in the Student Success Program, I was annoyed because I came with the mindset that this would not be a useful class, but I was proven wrong. I learned a lot and am more confident in what I do with my life.  I love this Success class and spend most of my life in the Student Success Center, doing work or just simply relaxing. I love the support I get from Jamie, Madi, and Joel.  They never made me feel bad for not passing a class with good grades but helped me find resources to do better. I am glad to have been placed here and to have great mentors. I learned that I can overcome my fears, and I am a hard worker. I learned that I am so much more than what I make myself believe and that it is okay to fail and get back up. It is awesome to always willing to help me. My goal is to find my calling. To find out just where I belong and to pass my second year.

Hi, my name is Michelle De La Huerta; the Student Success Program has helped me so much through my first year of college. Every day in Student Success, I’m learning new things. Every day I’m learning new strategies or studying styles to help me succeed in school. If I’m having trouble with something in school, I know I can ask my student success coach if she can help me find a solution to the problems. There are also professors or faculty staff, and I know I can also ask for help. I’m happy to know that I can count on some of my professors to be my mentor. What I love the most about the student success program is that you can always ask them for advice or help and they will guide you towards what you need to do and they will always make sure you are succeeding toward your goals. Being part of this program, I get to earn and learn different opportunities. Without the Student Success Program I know I wouldn’t have been able to survive through my first year of college.

The Student Success Center helped me in ways I didn’t even know it could! Being first generation you really don’t know what you’re getting yourself into, but with the help of everyone here, I felt like I knew what I was doing. It’s fun having a safe space where I can do my homework and even get some snacks when I forget breakfast! It’s also such a relief when I know I have people I can depend on when I have a situation. I just email someone there and boom, problem solved. I’m really grateful for all the support I get and all the connections I’ve made.

Aloha, my name is Leimomi Saizon, and I am a freshman. Moving to a different state is difficult, especially one so different from my home in Hawaii. Still, this program led me to meet different people and provides me with tools that help me to adjust and excel in my college career. The advisors are very kind; they genuinely care for me and help me be the best person I can be.

The Student Success Program was the one of the reasons I have stayed in school. The concepts I learned in the classes I took helped me learn how to study, manage my time and helped me learn how to use my resources to succeed in college. College isn’t easy, but the Student Success Program has made college easier for me! If I were not to have taken these classes and be part of the program, I would’ve probably been struggling more, but SSP prepared me for what college has to offer.

The student success program made me feel supported and helped me network with targeted groups.

I completed my first year of college and exceeded my own expectations. I met new people and learned new things. I completely stepped outside of my comfort zone repeatedly. I surprised myself academically, and my greatest success was earning the rising star scholarship.

The thing I’m most proud of is transitioning from a high school student to college, while learning to be more of an independent thinker in what’s most important my first year and what my contribution is to myself, family & friends. My #1 Goal was to get a GPA above 3.0, through all the challenges, fears, living on my own & I accomplished it.

In my first year of college, I achieved the goals I set out before I left college; which was to pass all my classes but still enjoy life as a college student. With the help of The Student Success Program it made life transitioning from high school in Hawaii to college in the mainland. This specific program has taught me ways to not only succeed in the classroom but also how to succeed in life. With the Student Success Program I wouldn’t be where I am today.
